WHAT IS AJAMU?

AJAMU is an exciting new movement mobilising and educating African (‘black’) people to give time and commitment in support of struggles for social and economic justice for African people in Britain, Africa and wherever Africans live.

We are particularly focused on engaging African youth who hold our future in their hands. We also encourage sisters to step forward and make a contribution.

Our Motto is: “Another Africa is possible”.

Our motto is our reminder that Africa has such a great history before slavery or colonialism and that together we can regain Africa’s rightful place in the world. We believe that Africa will rise again making all her people proud & free again. We believe that freedom begins with the unlocking of the mind.

We are clear that all peoples of African decent are Africans whether they are born in England, the Caribbean, Brazil or Africa. Right now, in England we suffer together as ‘Africans’. We are over represented in prisons, mental institutions and in under achievement in the school system. We occupy the lowest paid jobs, the worst housing and suffer more from crime but are stopped by the police more than any other group.

Everyone knows who we are except us!

We also believe that our weak position in England is directly related to the oppression we suffer but also due the way Africa is perceived. If Africa was strong, we would be strong. Just look at the Chinese! After centuries of invasion, enslavement, oppression & exploitation of Africa, the cradle of civilisation, it is sad that Africa lacks the political & economic unity to properly feed & sustain her own people. Throughout the world, Africa is portrayed as the suffering, backward dark continent with no prospect of development free of European dominance.

AJAMU asserts that ‘another Africa is possible’ because we believe that with joint action of ordinary African people, with common ideas, we can change our situation and help Africa & her people be strong again. Here in Britain, we can contribute to this struggle by joining together as a powerful movement that exposes the injustices of the west, agitates to weaken their stranglehold on our motherland and exposes the tyranny of African leaders who believe dependency is the only way.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. Supporting the struggle for social and economic justice in Africa and the diaspora

  2. Helping to create a climate of greater unity among African people in Britain

  3. Helping to wage campaigns that resist the domination of foreign ideology and culture

  4. Developing and leading campaigns that advance the interest of ordinary Africans e.g. education, pay and conditions, housing, policing, equal rights, anti racism

  5. Providing material and financial support to progressive grassroots projects and organisations.

  6. To build a strong, unified & disciplined organisation

Through these means AJAMU will develop as a strong arm of the Pan-African movement in Britain.

WHY IS AJAMU NEEDED

AFRICAN YOUTH HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY.

AJAMU is part of the global struggle to mobilise Africans and others in support of African liberation and unity. We believe that Africans every where must fight for Africa’s right to unity and self-determination. Each generation has a contribution to make. Our new generation of African youth in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham. We want you to make your contribution!

EACH OF US MUST ACT AND DECIDE

Each of us can make a difference. It is no good waiting for someone else to act or decide for us. That attitude - encouraged by those in power - is what has kept us controlled and exploited throughout history. Each one of us must take responsibility for the future, for our children and our children's children. We believe that the best way is to do this to join AJAMU and make your contribution to change the system.
